Immanuel Christian School will admit students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of admissions policies, educational programs, financial aid, athletic and other school-administered programs.
Applicants for Kindergarten must be at least 5 years old on or before October 1st. Each applicant for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade will be screened to determine whether the program at Immanuel Christian School can meet his or her needs. Tests used are widely accepted developmental readiness screenings for kindergarten and first grade, and the Stanford Achievement series for all others. While ICS ministers to students whose achievement ranges throughout the upper 50% of students nationally, the average student achievement at Immanuel is in the top 15% nationally. Therefore it is important that students be placed at the level that best meets their needs and preparation.
Our desire is that the screening process be as thorough as possible so that parents and students are not faced with unanticipated problems after beginning school. Therefore, we require copies of all academic, medical and behavioral records from previous schools including other private testing agencies or special medical reports. Provision of these records at the beginning of the admission process will help us avoid delays later on.
These guidelines apply to new and returning students. Students will be enrolled or re-enrolled according to the following order of priority. These priorities apply only after students have been qualified through application, testing, and interview. Returning students are considered qualified unless special academic or behavioral probation applies.
1st Priority: RETURNING STUDENTS
2nd Priority: EMPLOYEE APPLICANTS
3rd Priority: IBC SIBLING APPLICANTS
4th Priority: OTHER SIBLING APPLICANTS
5th Priority: IBC APPLICANTS
6th Priority: OTHER APPLICANTS
Date of application is only one factor in the admission process and does not determine an applicants place on the waiting list. It may, however, determine the applicants place among other qualified applicants of the same priority level. All applications received before December 15 are chronologically equal.
Enrollment cannot be completed until the school has had the opportunity to evaluate the following items:
1. All new students entering Immanuel Christian School must have a current medical history, physical examination, allergy information, and inoculation records on file. If inoculations are contrary to your religious beliefs or if contrary conditions exist, a letter stating this should accompany the Medical History Form. Health forms and waiver forms are available in the school office, and provided through the link below.
2. As inoculations are updated, the school must be informed via copies of the medical records in order to keep health records current. Requirements change based on Virginia law. See details at the Virginia Department of Health website.
3. Preliminary screenings (or documentation of outside screening results) for speech, hearing, vision, scoliosis fine and gross motor skills and language will be required in certain grades. Services will be made available at an additional nominal charge. See Parent Student Handbook for details.
4. In cases where complete records are not provided, registration may be delayed. Records must be submitted as rapidly as possible before as student can attend school. This is our responsibility under current law.
In the case where English is spoken as a second language in the home, a student's acceptance might also be provisional. If home use of English is not sufficient to support good home-school communication, a relative or family friend may be asked to assist as a translator. In some cases, we may also suggest that parents consider enrolling in an English as a Second Language class offered through Immanuel Bible Church. This would enable parents to be a more integral part of the educational process. |
